Social Space Between Direct Urbanism and Architecture, Architecture Forum Linz, Jan. 25, 2024, 7 pm

For more than twenty years, transparadiso has persistently been addressing the question of what methods and tools are needed to tackle current social issues – to consider architecture and urbanism in the context of often conflicting interests, between economic growth and social values as well as ecological urgencies. Fifty years after the Club of Rome's manifesto, these urgencies have become even more acute. Terms such as "sustainable" or "resilient" have deteriorated into fig leaves.

What macro-utopias and fictions do we need today to position de-growth as a necessary prerequisite for creating a socially and ecologically balanced coexistence, for providing a living environment of high quality for everyone?

Employing the method of direct urbanism, transparadiso uses artistic-urban interventions to initiate short-term processes that are to be integrated into planning processes in the longer term. Planning and action intertwine, as does research through practice, for creating situations for direct engagement.

Based on Wimhölzel-HInterland, transparadiso will explain how a sensitive transformation process can succeed in a complex social fabric.
